520.3.#.a: Patients will undoubtedly benefit when having teeth well placedin all space planes, within their bone base. Therefore, in manycases, teeth extractions become necessary. The aim of the presentstudy was to determine whether there were statistically significant differences in tooth movement, specifi cally in the anteriorsegment of the mouth, when comparing mechanical translationand sliding mechanical techniques. Sixty lateral skull x-rays wereselected. Study groups were formed: 30 were subject to translationmechanical technique, and the remaining 30 to sliding technique.Measurements were taken by the same professional. Variable averageswere compared before and after treatment, to determinethe existence of statistically signifi cant differences. Final measurementswith both space closure techniques were compared. Resultsshowed the presence of statistically signifi cant differences in thetranslation technique with respect to variables (overjet, overbite,IMPA, II-NB, 1-SN, 1 Fh) before and after treatment. This was notthe case for the following variables (1S-NA, occlusal 1-Pl, interincisalangle). It was equally observed that in the sliding mechanicaltechnique there were statistically signifi cant differences foundin the variable II-NB). This was not the case for the other variables(overbite, overjet, 1S-NA, 1Sn, 1Fh, 1-Ocl. Pl. LIMA, Inter-incisiveA). We therefore beg to conclude that translation mechanical techniqueis the one that brings us closer to cephalometric data normswith respect to fi nal position of the incisors.
